Topkapı Palace is an architectural masterpiece also one of the world’s largest surviving palaces. The palace honors the extensive history and culture of the Ottoman Empire. It was built between 1460 and 1478 by the orders of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the infamous conqueror of Istanbul.

The palace kitchen has over 12,000 porcelain pieces, including a celadon bowl from China that allegedly changes color if the food contains poison. Topkapı Palace’s kitchen were the biggest kitchen in the entire Ottoman Empire history! Well, for nearly 4,000 people in the palace, you think you would need 800 employees in the kitchen to serve food!

Buy your tickets earlier online so that you don’t wait in a long queue. Or if you must wait in line, come as early as you can. Also, Topkapı is in Fatih. Fatih has different museums that are close to each other so you can make your trip more cultural by visiting several of them in a day.
